Munich Airport, French investment firm Meridiam and Strabag Group (a European technology group that specialises in large international construction projects) are to operate Sofia Airport after winning a tender conducted by the Bulgarian government.

The decision is subject to the usual review by the Commission for Protection of Competition.

Munich Airport said: “Our group is looking forward to the next steps and working closely with all stakeholders to implement its development plan to further enhance the attractiveness of the airport and the economy.”

Sofia Airport has two cargo terminals with a total capacity of 20,000 tonnes per year.
