New Brisbane post hub to meet e-commerce boom

Australia Post is to build a $50 million parcel facility at Brisbane Airport Industrial Park, the largest project ever at the gateway.

Expected to open in early 2026, the 33,600sqm Brisbane North Parcel facility will be the second largest in the state. With South East Queensland’s population expected to increase to over 6 million by 2032, the investment will help Australia to meet expected e-commerce demand.

Unveiling the new site, Australia Post chief executive and managing director Paul Graham said the was evidence of the Group’s commitment to invest in infrastructure to support the changing needs of its customers and growth in business.

Graham added: “Queensland continues to experience year-on-year e-commerce growth, with 82% of Queenslanders making an online purchase in the past year. This new parcel facility will help us respond to that demand and deliver parcels to customers’ doors sooner.”

The facility will increase operational footprint and complements a modernisation and regional capacity network program, with 39 network operations sites upgraded in the past 12 months.

It will be able to process up to 176,000 parcels per day and improve safety by reducing touch points and manual handling thanks to large and small parcel sorters, both with integrated X-ray screening.

Brisbane North will be an international gateway operation, with the Australian Border Force and the Department of Agriculture Fisheries & Forestry on site.

“Our delivery team will also benefit from being closer to delivery catchments, reducing their on-road time and ultimately improving services for our customers throughout South East Queensland,” Graham continued.

Minister for Communications, Michelle Rowland declared: “In 2022-23, Australia Post delivered over half a billion parcels across the country, highlighting just how important it is that Australia Post invests to meet the growing demand for quality parcel services.

“The Government is supporting Australia Post to modernise in response to changing consumer demands, and this investment will help ensure the business is well positioned to meet the challenges and demands of the future.”
