New dawn for Aurora in St Louis

A new all-cargo airline, or more accurately a former airline that has been resurrected, announced during the Air Cargo Forum in Seoul that it is to use Mid-America St Louis Airport as a hub for scheduled freighter services to Asia and Latin America.
Aurora Air Cargo was mothballed in 1995, but founder and chairman Steve Crittendon judges the time is right to re-establish the carrier as a specialist in temperature-controlled pharmaceutical and perishable shipments.
Full details of Aurora’s network will not be revealed until spring 2015, but Ningbo in China was announced as an inaugural destination. MidAmerica set up a marketing and trade support cooperation agreement with Ningbo Logistics & Airport Administration at the last Air Cargo Forum in Atlanta two years ago.
Carlos Smith, Aurora president, said: “As airplanes start to operate out of MidAmerica a new closed, safe, certified secure cold chain will be available to US Midwest shippers to and from with less handling and ground movement than is available today.”
Smith added that perishable shippers in Asia and Latin America would likewise benefit from direct services without double or triple handling.
