Racing into Abu Dhabi

At the end of this week (on 27 November), the concluding race of the Formula 1 season will be held at Abu Dhabi’s Yas Marina Circuit.
Many of the cars that will race, plus supporting equipment, have already flown into the emirate in preparation for practice sessions (which start on 25 November), qualifying and the crucial race itself.
As of today (21 November), six flights carrying cars and equipment have already flown into Abu Dhabi International Airport from Brazil, venue for the previous race in the long F1 season.
These freighter flights will boost the gateway’s cargo throughput statistics. Last month (October), Abu Dhabi International Airport handled 73,649 tonnes of cargo, up by 6.7% on the same month of 2015.
However, over the course of the January to October period, the airport handled 6621,549 tonnes, down by 4% year on year.
Abu Dhabi International Airport currently serves over 100 destinations across 56 countries.
