DHL Global Forwarding has opened a new facility in Indianapolis as the firm looks to capitalise on growing demand for the transport of pharma and life sciences products.
The new $1.5m facility measures 30,000 sq ft and is located at the end of the runway at Indianapolis International Airport, giving it direct ramp access.
The facility will be combined with DHL’s ground handling operation and cater for a dedicated Boeing 777 freighter connection with Liege.
“Indiana is an important pharmaceutical hub in the US and our focus is to ensure seamless and safe transportation of the important products being developed here to facilitate the growth of our customers’ operations in the region,” said Jose Maria de Orduna, regional vice president, US east region of DHL Global Forwarding.
“This investment, combined with the know-how of our specialised life sciences and health care team in the US, will allow us to provide a unique end-to-end cold chain air cargo service that delivers both cost and transit time benefits for our customers.”
The facility will also offer forwarding, warehousing, customs brokerage, and cold-chain packaging management.
“With this investment, DHL Global Forwarding is continuing to expand its dedicated cold chain network in the US market, following recent investments in two other life sciences strongholds- San Juan (Puerto Rico) and the Research Triangle area (Raleigh, North Carolina),” the forwarder said.
