DHL opens Delhi centre to tap e-commerce boom

Deutsche Post DHL’s eCommerce arm has opened a distribution centre in Delhi as part of a €250m investment in India to 2020.
The new facility allows DHL eCommerce to provide online retailers services such as Packet and Packet Plus to enable economical shipments worldwide and DHL Parcel International Direct that offers transit times of four to seven days to the US, the UK and Australia.
DHL eCommerce Asia Pacific chief executive, Malcolm Monteiro, said that India is one of the top ten e-commerce markets and, as the fastest-in the world at around 31% a year is expected reach €2bn by 2020.
He added: "India has been identified as a key market for DPDHL Group and we’re leveraging our experience and successes globally and customising our services to meet the needs of the market. We’re confident that our new cross-border solutions will provide an added boost to the growing e-commerce industry in India."
Country director, DHL eCommerce India, Suraj Bangera, pointed out, also that India’s new fiscal policies “has made e-commerce exports more attractive and business-friendly than ever before. We are positive of the growth and are hugely committed to enable Indian e-tailers to fully capitalize this exciting e-commerce market."
DHL has been in India since 1979 and along with its sister divisions DHL Express, DHL Supply Chain, DHL Global Forwarding and subsidiary Blue Dart, offers a range of solutions for e-commerce retailers.
