Dubai-based DP World has opened a freight forwarding office in Panama City, its latest addition to its network in Latin America.

Like the logistics and shipping group’s existing outlets in the region, it offers air freight, customs clearance, warehousing multimodal transportation and related services.

DP World chief operating officer Morten Johansen said that Panama’s strategic position was an ideal location for expanding freight forwarding operations and would enable the company to offer customers in Panama and throughout Latin America more comprehensive logistics solutions with tailored services for industries such as retail, automotive, manufacturing and healthcare.

DP World Americas, senior vice president, freight forwarding, Terry Donohoe, added: “Our Panama City office not only expands DP World’s operational footprint but also enhances our ability to deliver solutions that support local businesses.

From traditional air, ocean and customs brokerage solutions to more specialised service offerings like temperature-controlled shipping for perishables to project cargo handling, we are equipped to meet the diverse needs of the Panamanian market.”

Earlier in October, DP World opened a forwarding office in Bogotá, Colombia,  complementing existing operations in Ecuador and Peru. DP World also plans to open a commercial office in Medellín, Colombia, in 2025.

Existing Latin American forwarding offices also include Brazil, Chile, Ecuador and Suriname.

In May, operations started at DP World’s air cargo logistics hub in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic with the arrival of its first freighter aircraft.

The multimodal facility at Punta Cana International Airport has been jointly developed with Grupo Puntacana and built through an agreement with the Punta Cana Free Trade Zone. The 10,000sq m air cargo facility includes a logistics centre with warehouse and manufacturing facilities.

The developments in Latin America are part of a global expansion of DP World’s forwarding footprint since mid-2023, with over 150 offices already opened, 20 of these in the Americas.

DP World plans a network of over 180 offices worldwide, including additional locations in the US and Latin America.
