K+N signs cool chain deal with Ortho Clinical Diagnostics

Ortho Clinical Diagnostics has awarded a six-year contract to Kuehne+Nagel (K+N) to manage its cold and temperature-controlled warehousing and distribution in the US.
“We need a partner with demonstrated capability managing high volume cold chain distribution operations and who understands the strict regulatory rules and logistics challenges of our industry,” said Robert Yates, chief operating officer of Ortho Clinical Diagnostics.
K+N also manages the vitro diagnostics specialist’s cold chain transportation, both domestically and internationally.
The Switzerland-based global logistics giant has added 11,600sq m of warehousing space to its highly automated, fully licensed and accredited Memphis facility, which already had 18,500sq m of warehouse capacity mostly dedicated to life sciences.
The new space includes 3,500sq m for 2-8°C service, 2,300sq m for -25°C cryogenic service, 4,000sq m for controlled-ambient warehousing conditions, and an additional 1,800sq m for packaging operations.
John Hextall, president and chief executive of K+N North America, said: “Kuehne+Nagel continues to invest in its KN PharmaChain solution in order to guarantee the highest service and quality standards for the inventory control and transport of pharmaceutical products.”
