Rhenus Group has declared the Americas as a vital region for growth due to ongoing global disruptions and the need for further diversification of cargo flows.
Rhenus is committing to creating more sustainable transportation and expanding its freight forwarding services as well as warehousing solutions across the Americas.
“We want to further strengthen our footprint in the Americas by enhancing the sustainable organic growth of the company and focus on mergers and acquisitions,” said Tobias Koenig, Global CEO of Rhenus Air & Ocean.
“The group will continue to successfully grow in the western hemisphere by investing across the Americas to build a stronger transatlantic network with Europe, intensify transpacific cargo flows, and expand into contract logistics and multimodal transportation in Latin America.”
In the Americas Rhenus is currently represented with 21 locations in eight countries. The company covers the East and West coast of the US and the regional headquarters in Miami operate as the essential hub for the rest of the Americas.
Rhenus Group has additional branches and warehouse locations in strategic US cities near main ports and airports, including Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Indianapolis, Los Angeles, New Jersey, and New York.
Since 2018, Rhenus has been rapidly growing into the LATAM market and acquired Pirâmide SeaAir Comércio Exterior in Brazil, where it had been active before.
In 2019, Freight Logistics International was acquired by Rhenus, along with its offices in the USA, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, and delegation offices in Colombia and Peru.
During that same year, Rhenus also acquired the Canadian-based customised logistics solutions specialist Rodair, establishing the Canadian network with its business and warehouse sites in Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver.
In late 2020, Rhenus opened its first own branch in Mexico City, Mexico, and recently, in Bogota, Colombia.
In the Americas, Rhenus specialises in air freight and air cargo charter services, ocean freight forwarding, road transportation, warehousing solutions, customs clearance, and project logistics.
An important addition for Rhenus was the expansion in the southwest region of the US in 2021 by acquiring Global Net Logistics, an international freight forwarder with a more than 2,000-sq-m warehouse facility based in Dallas.
The new addition strengthens the group’s portfolio with cross-border services between Mexico and the US, door-to-door solutions in the domestic market with road transportation of less-than-truckload (LTL) and full-truckload (FTL) shipping and expanding the Rhenus warehouse and distribution presence in the southwest region.
In September 2022, Rhenus Warehousing Solutions announced the expansion of its intercontinental footprint in the US with its first Midwest location in Indianapolis, Indiana, accommodating the growing market needs and customer demands.
The 13,000 sq m warehouse operates as a multi-user fulfilment and distribution centre for high-tech machinery, e-commerce, and medical devices industries. Rhenus also invested in early 2020 in Miami, Florida, in a 15,000-square-metre warehouse designated as a foreign trade zone and gateway to Latin America.
