VietJet to expand cargo offer

Vietnamese passenger carrier VietJet is expanding its cargo offer – including freighter services longer term – with the launch of Vietjet Air Cargo.
The “new age” airline, launched three years ago, plans to operate 28 routes this year and will look to increase this by 39 in 2015 as cargo demand increases both locally and globally.
Starting with interline partners to develop its cargo network, VietJet will develop local and international commercial flights but also “freighter fleet and air charter services nationwide and all over the world,” it said in a statement.
The airline’s fleet of A320 aircraft is also expected to reach 30 by end of next year.
“There is a huge potential for air cargo in Vietnam. Currently this service is mainly offered by international airlines and most local airlines have yet to be qualified for such services in this market,” says Mr Do Xuan Quang, managing director of Vietjet Air Cargo.
VietJet currently operates more than 770 flights per week, with  connections to key economic regions such as: Ho Chi Minh City, Ha Noi, Hai Phong and Da Nang.
International flights include Singapore, Bangkok (Thailand), Taipei (Taiwan) and Seoul, (South Korea).
According to the International Air Transport Association, air cargo accounts for 25% of total exports in Vietnam. In Hanoi, there has been a steady increase in the air transportation of commodities, with the expected revenue estimated to reach beyond one $1bn in 2015.
