Oman Air makes Smart move

Oman Air has chosen SmartKargo to manage its airfreight sales and operations from June 2016. The Cloud-based cargo platform provides electronic air waybills along with pricing and ratemaking services.
Oman Air’s chief sales officer, Mahfood Al Harthy said the attraction of SmartKargo was rapid deployment without having to spend on infrastructure, adding: “Moreover, SmartKargo’s robust and flexible capabilities will help us leverage our joint venture agreement with Cargolux to develop Muscat as a logistics hub.”
SmartKargo also provides tools for managing warehouse and ramp operations, while its Cloud-based architecture allows all partners in the air cargo chain access to shipment information.
The IT company’s strategic advisor, Des Vertannes, added: “In my experience as a recently retired head of cargo at IATA, it used to take many years and millions of dollars to implement a cargo IT solution. SmartKargo’s approach, to create an industry-standard Cloud solution, is a game changer.”
Executive vice-president sales and marketing, Jay Shelat, SmartKargo said: “Oman Air joins Hawaiian Airlines, Norwegian, and eight other forward-thinking airlines that clearly understand that a future-ready cargo management solution is the only way to meet the challenges of a rapidly-evolving logistics sector.”
