Qatar Airways flies into Windhoek

Windhoek, the capital of Namibia, has become the latest city on the expanding network of Doha-based Qatar Airways.
The carrier is going to fly the route to its first Namibian connection from its hub at Doha with a Boeing 787 ‘Dreamliner’ four times a week.
Qatar Airways Group chief executive Akbar Al Baker commented: “Africa remains one of our key target areas for growth and we have identified Namibia as an important African nation to include in our expansion plans.”
Export businesses in Namibia are set to benefit from the launch of the new route, the carrier noted, given that Qatar Airways Cargo will offer 92 tonnes of bellyhold capacity each week on the B787 connection.
“This will offer Namibian businesses a prime opportunity to distribute goods across the airline’s network of more than 150 destinations,” a Qatar Airways statement pointed out.
Despite the challenges of the global airfreight market of recent times, Qatar Airways Cargo and other big freight carriers in the Middle East, such as Emirates SkyCargo and Etihad Cargo, are showing no sign of letting up in terms of their investment in new routes and new aircraft acquisitions.
They are also benefiting from the expanding networks of their parent passenger carriers.
