Another successful Air Cargo News Cargo Airline of the Year Awards

American Airlines was voted Cargo Airline of the Year 2016 in a night of airfreight industry celebrations, with 14 winners taking a bow in London at a gala event.
The airfreight industry Oscars, now in their 33rd year, were presented by TV celebrity Gyles Brandreth in front of an audience of more than 400 people who had flown in from all over the world to attend the awards, held at the Lancaster London Hotel.
American Airlines Cargo president Jim Butler, accepting the keynote award for the second time in two years, said: “I would like to thank all our customers for voting for us, the forwarders, who are second to none. I would also like to thank all the men and women around the world who help us to be successful.”
Jim Butler was presented with his award by Dan March, chief executive of forwarder organisation WCA, the main event sponsor.
The airline awards are based on the voting results of more than 18,000 supply chain professionals over a two month period.
Shippers, the beneficial owners of the goods, and their logistics partners were asked to vote on the publication’s website for the airline that provided the best overall customer experience and for the best service provider in each region.
Among the other awards, was one for Lifetime Achievement, presented to Enno Osinga, the former Amsterdam Airport Schiphol senior vice president cargo, who retired from the industry in October last year after holding a number of senior positions within the airfreight industry.
Accepting his award from Gary Chapman, chief executive of dnata, Enno Osinga thanked the team at Schiphol for its innovative approach to airfreight: “Cargo is a fundamental part of the business for an airport and it has to play an important role, not just in charges and rents, but in processes.”
Roger Hailey, editor of Air Cargo News, said: “Once again the air cargo industry has proven that innovation and customer service go hand in hand with efficient and secure global supply chains.
“It was a night of worthy winners, and a great social occasion that brought together so many industry friends who work together in partnership to make air cargo the key enabler of economic growth worldwide. Congratulations to all those who won or who entered the awards. You are a credit to the industry.”
There was a total of 14 categories in the 2016 Cargo Airline of the Year awards, based on a mix of direct voting, company submissions and two awards within the gift of the editor.
There was also a raffle, which raised money for students at Cranfield University.
