Cathay to fly a B747-8F to Portland from November

Cathay Pacific Cargo is to operate a twice-weekly scheduled Boeing 747-8 freighter service between its Hong Kong home hub and Portland, Oregon, in the US from November 3, subject to government approval.
Portland — the carrier’s 18th cargo station in the Americas — will be served by a Hong Kong-Anchorage-Los Angeles-Portland-Anchorage (tech stop)-Hong Kong rotation every Thursday and Saturday.
The aircraft offers more space for expected high volumes of semi-finished footwear and apparel, electronics, and perishables from the Portland area into Asia. The region is also one of the fastest growing hubs for e-commerce shipments for the Pacific Northwest region.
Cathay cargo director Simon Large said: “The Americas are a very important market for Cathay Pacific and we are delighted to add Portland to our expanding freighter network.
"We are committed to providing the best cargo services connecting Asia to this important manufacturing region, and at the same time boosting Hong Kong’s standing as one of the world’s key international airfreight hubs.”
In May this year, Cathay Pacific and Lufthansa Cargo signed a partnership that will see the two airlines offer a joint network of more than 140 flights per week between Hong Kong and 13 European destinations.
The “highly integrated bilateral co-operation” is due to begin early next year and will see the two airlines work closely together on network planning, as well as sales, IT and ground handling.
