Confident Cargolux commits to another B747-8 freighter

DESPITE widespread over-capacity woes, Cargolux has confidently ordered an additional B747-8 freighter from Boeing as part of its ongoing fleet renewal and expansion programme.
The additional aircraft takes its total order to 14 B747-8Fs.
According to the all-cargo airline, the latest aircraft will support the airline’s growth – “on the back of an expected increase in cargo volumes fueled by a recovery in world trade growth and improved business confidence”, says a statement.
Cargolux currently operates nine B747-8 freighters and 11 B747-400F models that are successively being replaced by the newer version.
The latest B747-8F is expected to be delivered in March 2015.
Since the delivery of the first B747-8F to launch-customer Cargolux in 2011, the type has proven to be a valuable addition to the airline’s fleet, with unsurpassed economics, lower operational costs and environmental advances, says the company.
“The new Cargolux workhorse has shown high dispatch reliability and, in 2013, achieved an average daily utilisation of almost 16 hours, one of the highest in the industry,” the statement adds.
