Bali airport reopens for now

Indonesian officials have reopened Bali’s international airport but have warned that it could close again if the wind direction changes. Flights to Denpasar airport have been disrupted for the past three days by a threatened volcanic eruption from Mount Agung.
Carriers including Cathay Pacific, Air France KLM, Qantas, Virgin, Air Asia, Jetstar and Garuda Indonesia had cancelled all flights to and from Denpasar Ngurah Rai airport for fear that volcanic ash could damage engines.
According to reports, the airport reopened at 15:00 local time (07:00 GMT) today but the situation was being constantly monitored. One of the airport’s first tasks will be to evacuate tens of thousands of travellers stranded by the cancellation of flights.
However, the airport on neighbouring Lombok island reopened earlier, allowing some passengers to depart via local ferry services.
