Cargo operations disrupted as typhoon strikes Hong Kong

Cargo operations from Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) have been severely disrupted as Typhoon Hato batters the region.
In a notice to customers, Cathay Pacific said that the majority of flight services into and out of Hong Kong between 6am and 5pm (Hong Kong time) have been cancelled.
"Please note that wind speed and direction is severely impacting flight operations, and is forecast to do so throughout Wednesday, 23 August, regardless of typhoon signal level," the airline’s cargo division said.
"We are closely monitoring the situation and will issue further updates should there be any changes to the flight schedule."
The airline group has so far cancelled four freighter flights over the coming days: CX017/CX018 – HKG-MAA-CMB; CX052/CX053 – HKG-CKG-HKG; CX006/CX005 – HKG-NRT-TPE and CX2090/CX2091 – HKG-ANC-DFW-ATL-ANC-HKG.
Other freighter airlines to cancel certain flights are: China Airlines, Hong Kong Airlines, AirBridgeCargo, Yangtze River Express, Hong Kong Air Cargo, Qatar Airways, SF Airlines, TNT Airways, Bismillah, FedEx and Aerologic.
Meanwhile, other freighter flights are subject to delays and there has been a 60% reduction in total flights from the airport, according to the South China Morning Post.
Operations at Hong Kong container port have also been affected by the typhoon.
