DUBAI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT’S (DXB) freight volumes rose 3.4 per cent to 188,702 tonnes in February in comparison with 182,580 the previous year.
Home carrier Emirates Airline’s cargo capacity expansion plan at DXB is expected to boost future volumes.
Nabil Sultan, divisional senior vice-president of cargo at Emirates SkyCargo, reveals: “We are enhancing our infrastructure at the hub, because its is a critical piece of foundation that we must get right. A lot of work has already been done to enlarge the real estate area that we have at Dubai Airport.
“We have just taken over a new facility at DXB and it is in the midst of being refurbished. It should give us additional tonnage of up to 800,000 – on top of the 1.2 million we currently have – almost doubling the size of the handling facility there.”
