Freighters switch triggers Dubai (DXB) cargo drop

WHILST the permanent relocation of Emirates SkyCargo’s freighter operations has boosted Dubai World Central’s (DWC) cargo business, the switch has had the opposite effect on its sister airport Dubai International (DXB), writes Thelma Etim, deputy editor.
DXB recorded a downturn in July, with volumes falling to 184,720 tonnes, down 10.7 per cent from the 206,945 achieved in the same month in 2013, reveals the facility’s owners Dubai Airports.
Year-to-date airfreight volumes reached 1.37million tonnes – down 3.1 per cent from 1.4million recorded in the first seven months of last year, it adds.
