Impressive figures for Dubai International

Operator Dubai Airports has revealed cargo traffic figures for Dubai International Airport in October.
The gateway handled 236,169 tonnes of cargo during the month, up by 9.5% compared to the same month of last year.
Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports, observed: “Cargo numbers impressed during October with the biggest monthly increase we’ve seen all year.”
By way of comparison, September freight volumes totalled 205,142 tonnes, down by 1% from the figure recorded in September last year.
Over the course of the first 10 months of this year, Dubai International processed a total of 2,127,589 tonnes of cargo, up by 2.8% over the same period of 2015.
Dubai International Airport is home to the passenger fleet of Dubai-based carrier Emirates Airline, and thus handles the bellyhold cargo carried in those aircraft as well as those of other airlines flying through what is now the world’s busiest international air passenger hub.
The gateway is also, according to Airports Council International (ACI) figures for 2015, the world’s second-busiest international airfreight hub and sixth-biggest for total airfreight volumes handled.
All of Emirates SkyCargo’s freighters operate through Dubai World Central’s Al Maktoum International Airport. The carrier links its two Dubai cargo gateways with comprehensive trucking road feeder services.
