Middle East airfreight hub volumes outpace Asia Pacific in January

Airfreight traffic grew 7.4% in the Middle East during January, more than double the growth in the Asia-Pacific at 3.3%, according to latest regional statistics from Airports Council International (ACI).

Said ACI Asia Pacific: “The improvement in freight volumes in Asia-Pacific may be positively impacted by the push leading up to Chinese New Year, hence partially offset the continued downward pressure from weakening of trade activities.
“In the Middle East, freight traffic continued to benefit from network expansion.”
Eight out of the top ten freight hubs in Asia-Pacific and the Middle East posted positive gains for the month, led by Qatar Airways’ Doha(DOH) home base at 21.6%, Guangzhou (CAN) with 9.8%, and Dubai (DXB) at 8.2%.
Other major airports that generated double digit growth include: New Delhi (DEL), up by 15.8%, and Chengdu (CTU) with a 12.6% increase.
Asia-Pacific is one of the five regions of the ACI and represents 100 members operating 573 airports in 47 countries in Asia-Pacific and the Middle-East.
