DHL’s supply chain medicine for pharma firm STADA

DHL will integrate the German logistics activity of pharmaceuticals company STADA into its own business from June. Its supply chain arm will manage the logistics activities and sites of the pharmaceutical company in Florstadt and Bad Vilbel, near Frankfurt/Main.
The deal includes the transfer of 155 employees working in STADA’s warehouse and export operations, but not disposal of the infrastructure.
STADA said the move would help it focus on its core business to strengthen its competitiveness and cut costs.
DHL Supply Chain chief executive for Germany, Alps and Nordics, Benoit Dumont, said: “In order to cater to their needs and those of additional customers, DHL is planning to invest into a new facility. After a detailed feasibility study we will also decide about the implementation of a new IT system.”
DHL Supply Chain’s sector president for global life sciences and healthcare, Graham Inglis, explained that the sector was one of its fastest growing but that competition was fierce. “In the tough competitive environment the pharma industry is operating in, fully integrated and bespoke solutions make the supply chain a competitive differentiator.”
