Healthy growth for UTi’s pharma business

Freight forwarder UTi Worldwide has opened a Good Distribution Practices (GDP)-certified pharma facility in Rome.
The 1,700 sq m site near Fiumicino – Leonardo da Vinci International Airport aims to tap into the large number of pharma companies now operating in central Italy and south of the region, said global vice president, pharmaceutical and healthcare, Phil Abbate.
Abbate adds: "Our pharma handling protocols and enhanced capabilities ensure that inbound and outbound pharmaceutical products are handled safely and securely to ensure product integrity."
He said the Rome site’s three temperature-controlled rooms and handling protocols actually exceeded the pharma industry’s GDP standards. It is also Envirotainer QEP and C-Safe qualified for handling and pre-conditioning, and can provide assembly and distribution and a portfolio of insulated pallet wrapping options.
US-owned UTi has also achieved Center of Excellence for Independent Validators certification at Brussels Airport and will shortly open a new facility in Frankfurt.
