Dachser forwarding business hit by low rates

Kempten, Germany-headquartered logistics services provider Dachser enjoyed a solid improvement in revenue in 2016, but its sea and airfreight business division performed less well.
In the Dachser Air & Sea Logistics business area, revenue decreased by 3% year on year to €1.54bn, while the number of shipments handled remained constant.
This decrease in revenue was due to low international freight rates, especially in sea freight, and negative currency effects, Dachser informed.
But: “We know how to deal with the volatile nature of international air and sea freight, and are consistently expanding this business field,” said Dachser chief executive Bernhard Simon.
Over the course of 2016, Dachser made consolidated gross revenue of approximately €5.71bn euros – representing a consolidated revenue increase of 1.7% on the previous year.
The total number of shipments handled across all modes rose by 2.4% to 80m, and tonnages rose by 2.4% to 38.2m tonnes. This growth was driven by European overland transport and by food-related logistics, Dachser confirmed.
“Despite the volatility of the global economy, we were able to maintain our stable market position through organic growth at the previous years’ levels, while simultaneously developing solutions for tomorrow’s market,” reported Simon.
