Forwarder Leman continues UK expansion with Maru deal

Denmark-based freight forwarder Leman has continued to expand its presence in the UK with the acquisition of Maru International for an undisclosed sum.
Maru provides air and sea logistics solutions and also has a strong presence in the European road transport market from its offices in Dewsbury, Braintree and just outside Glasgow.
Leman Group chief executive Thomas Krøyer said: ”Maru is a strong company founded on high quality and a great product portfolio that complements Leman’s current activities in the UK.
”Now we can offer a significantly improved and solid set-up across the UK – from southern England to Scotland in the north. Leman becomes more attractive to customers throughout the UK as well as to partners and agents in the rest of Europe and beyond.”
After the merger, due to be completed by January 1, the company will consist of a total of 160 employees in the UK.
Jesper Thygesen, current managing director of Leman UK, will continue in that role, while Maru owners Vaughan Woolfitt and Joe Hemingway will continue with the company after the acquisition.
Maru is the third acquisition in the UK in under two years. In 2015, the company acquired air and sea forwarder RSH based in the Heathrow area and later road transport specialist Dalpa.
