UPS promotes grassroots talent

UPS has appointed Nando Cesarone as president of its Europe region and Ross McCullough for Asia Pacific, while Cindy Miller becomes president of global freight forwarding.

Cesarone, a 25-year UPS veteran who most recently served as president of UPS’s Asia Pacific Region, will now be responsible for operations in 56 countries and territories and more than 45,000 employees in UPS’s largest non-US region, which contributes around half its $2bn international package operating profit.
A native of Toronto, Canada, Cesarone has held several key international management positions at UPS, including country manager for Austria, Hungary and Switzerland; vice president of Operations for UPS Canada; president for North-East Europe; and president, UPS Asia Pacific. While in Asia, he expanded UPS’s presence to Myanmar and 21 new cities in China.
He succeeds Cindy Miller, who will be returning to the US as president of UPS Global Freight Forwarding. Miller’s positions at UPS include president of UPS South Europe and Africa, as well as similar roles in the US.
Like her recently promoted colleagues, Miller has worked her way through the ranks, initially starting as a package car driver and eventually becoming president for UPS UK, Ireland, and Nordics, and during her time there successfully coordinated the delivery of more than 30m items for the 2012 Olympic Games.
McCullough joined UPS in 1984, and was most recently vice president for corporate strategy, helping to develop a comprehensive global vision and strategy communications platform and a new strategic planning process. He oversaw strategic investments in Asia Pacific and also established and led the first UPS eCommerce team.
As president for the UPS Asia Pacific Region, McCullough will be responsible for more than 40 countries and territories throughout Asia.
President of UPS International, Jim Barber, said that Cesarone and McCullough: “Have honed their leadership skills with a broad range of assignments around the world and I know they will make a significant impact as presidents of the Asia Pacific and Europe Region.
“Like many of our executives, both of them started their careers as a package loader and driver, respectively, exemplifying our focus on leadership development and succession planning.”
He also praised Miller’s role in leading the Europe region “through an exciting time of record business performance as well as an historic $200m expansion of UPS’s European air hub in Cologne, Germany. As Cindy returns to the US to assume the role of president of UPS Global Freight Forwarding, I would like to thank her for her leadership.”
