DHL to test ten Tesla trucks in the US

DHL Supply Chain is to be a launch customer for ten Tesla Electric Class 8 articulated semi trucks in the US.
The Deutsche Post DHL Group subsidiary will be using the vehicles, billed as the first ever commercial all-electric heavy trucks, for shuttle deliveries and same-day customer deliveries in ten cities from 2019. They will also be tested for efficiency on longer runs from major markets to other DHL operations across the country.
DHL also plans to evaluate the trucks’ impact on drivers’ quality of life and job satisfaction.
The trucks will be the latest in a long line of DHL electric vehicles, which include 5,000 StreetScooters, developed and manufactured in-house, and some 10,500 e-bikes and e-trikes,
Deutsche Post DHL Group already operates the largest electric fleet in and plans to replace its entire mail and parcel delivery fleet in the mid-term with electric vehicles charged from renewable sources
