A step-up in cargo capacity to Canada

IN January AirBridgeCargo Airlines issued another signal about its long-standing ambitions to mount freighter services between Russia and North America. It appointed Toronto-based Network Cargo Systems as its general sales and service agent for the US and Canada.

“My job is to develop the market so if and when they show up, AirBridge will have a good position in North America,” said Howard Jones (right), president of NCS. For the time being, the GSA sells off-line for ABC, funnelling traffic to interline points in Europe, for the most part Amsterdam and Frankfurt, but occasionally also Milan.

A year ago NCS had signed up another all-cargo outfit from the other side of the Atlantic. Cargoitalia named the firm its GSA for Canada before it launched a twice-weekly MD-11F run from its Milan hub to New York and Toronto in September.
