AA to add second pharma offering

AMERICAN Airlines Cargo is preparing to add a second product aimed at the pharmaceuticals and health care sector to its line-up. In the coming year it intends to introduce a second-tier offering targeting traffic that balks at the cost of using active temperature control technology.

“We are going to add a passive temperature-controlled product,” said Dave Brooks (right), president of AA Cargo.

In the summer of 2009 AA introduced expedite.TC, a temperature-controlled express service offered in cooperation with Envirotainer. In addition to temperature monitoring at several points during transit and specialised handling, the product has a 100 per cent flown-as-booked guarantee. According to Brooks, it has been well received in the market and shows steady growth. Still, he sees room for a second offering.

“We don’t want to go only after the Envirotainer-type business,” he said. “More and more pharma companies are looking for cheaper ways to move their product.”
