AAT announces tonnage throughput for May 2010

HONG Kong’s Asia Airfreight Terminal (AAT) has reported its tonnage throughput in May was 64,041 tonnes, a growth of 73 per cent compared with the same period last year.

Export cargo registered 45,994 tonnes, a growth of 95 per cent when compared with the same month last year, while import cargo was 17,486 tonnes, up 36 per cent. Transhipment was 561 tonnes, a growth of two per cent.

Cumulative export tonnage from January to May was 191,190 tonnes, a 66 per cent year-on-year growth. Total import tonnage for first five months increased by 23 per cent, to 77,749 tones. Transhipment cargo volume since the beginning of the year was 1,939 tones, up three per cent.

AAT general manager for corporate development, Nelson Lee, said: “The continuous growth in these five months reaffirms sustainable recovery. Nevertheless, it may be prudent to watch at the same time the ripple effect of financial problems in some EU countries.”
