Air France-KLM to take over Martinair

EUROPEAN competition regulators have given the all clear for Air France-KLM to buy full ownership of Dutch charter and cargo airline Martinair.

The French company already owns 50 per cent of Martinair but now it will buy the remaining 50 per cent from the Danish shipping company Moller-Maersk, as of 31 December 2008. The European Commission said that since Air France-KLM already owned half off Martinair that the effects on price would be limited.

Both airlines are based out of Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam.

President and CEO of Martinair, Paul Gregorowitsch, said: “For Martinair and its 2000 employees, this is encouraging news after a long period of uncertainty. The Martinair restructuring activities can be actively continued given this perspective.”
