IN Canada, Greater Moncton International Airport (New Brunswick) has received a CA$24million (US$24.7 million) upgrade to boost cargo competition with the likes of
Boston, Montréal and New York airports.
Cargo volumes at Winnipeg’s Richardson International Airport (Manitoba) hit record levels in 2010, despite the fact total North American volumes declined last year. Ongoing promotion of the cargo capacity at the airport seems to be taking hold as it recorded its second straight year of cargo-volume increases of at least 7.5 per cent.
In the US, cargo loads and passenger counts at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (Arizona) are beginning to return to pre-recession levels. On the cargo front, 28,300 tons (25,668 metric tonnes) of freight and mail went through Sky Harbor in March, up 16 per cent year-on-year.
Air traffic through the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport (Texas) increased another nine per cent in March compared year-over-year. Air cargo totalled 6.156 tonnes in March, down 2.5 per cent compared with the same month last year.
Kansas City International Airport (Kansas) freight carriers saw tonnage lift 8.4 per cent in March, down 0.3 per cent year-to-date.
