American Airlines Carry King Tut to Dallas

AS official airline of the exhibition, American Airlines Cargo Division, played a key role in bringing Tutankhamun and the Golden Age of the Pharaohs (King Tut) to the US from its London engagement.

AA Cargo was entrusted by the exhibit organiser, Arts and Exhibitions International, with shipping more than 130 priceless artefacts weighing a total of more than 14,500 pounds.

American Airlines and AA Cargo are thrilled to have had a part in bringing this remarkable exhibit to the US. Almost three decades have passed since some of the artefacts last left Egypt, and allows viewers to experience the richness of ancient Egyptian art and culture.

The exhibition opens at the Dallas Museum of Art on 3 October, 2008, where it will remain until 17 May, 2009. It will then travel to several, yet unnamed cities around the US before returning to Egypt in 2011.

The treasures in the exhibit are between 3,300 and 3,500 years old, and include more than 130 extraordinary artefacts from the tomb and other ancient Egyptian sites. Fifty Tutankhamun’s burial objects are on display, including his royal diadem – the gold crown discovered encircling the head of his mummified body that he likely wore as king – and one of the gold and precious stone inlaid canopic coffinettes that contained his mummified internal organs.
