Angola Airways buys more 777s

ANGOLA’S flag carrier TAAG Angola Airlines has finalised an order with Boeing for three additional 777-300 Extended Range (ER) aircraft.
The order, valued at US$895m at list prices, also includes the right to buy three more of the aircraft at a future date. This takes the carrier’s total fleet up to eight 737s and five 777s.
TAAG will use the new aircraft to further develop its route network, which will include direct flights to Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo (both Brazil) Lisbon and Oporto (both Portugal) and other European destinations.
TAAG currently operates three 777-200ERs and two 777-300ERs from Luanda (Angola) to Lisbon 10 times a week, to Beijing (China) once a week, to Dubai (UAE) twice weekly, to Sao Paulo four times a week and to Rio de Janeiro three times weekly.
The Angolan government owns TAAG. This investment in fleet comes after the European Union banned the carrier from operating in its airspace due to concerns over safety related to its older aircraft.
It can now operate the 777s to Europe, but the ban on its older fleet remains.
