AVIANCA buys eight Airbus jetliners

AVIANCA (Colombia) is to purchase eight Airbus jetliners this year, as part of the airline’s US$1.5bn expansion programme.
The new aeroplanes will be added to the flag carrier’s existing fleet of 26 aircraft.
Owner German Efromovich has also indicated the company is interested in purchasing up to 50 new aircraft for its Brazil fleet, which would be delivered in 2017.
The news comes as some major Brazilian carriers have been forced to slash jobs to restore profits after heavy losses in 2011.
