BA and LAN settle cargo court action

OVER US$150 million in settlements will be paid by British Airways (BA) and LAN for their part in the price-fixing conspiracy.

BA will pay a hefty $89.5 million and LAN Cargo and its Brazilian affiliate ABSA have proposed $66 million to settle.

The settlement offers are still subject to approval in court where the lawsuits have been consolidated. The date for the fairness hearing has yet to be set.

The civil class action was initiated against 42 airlines. Air France-KLM, All Nippon Airways, American Airlines, Cargolux, Japan Airlines, Lufthansa, Qantas, SAS and Thai Airways have all reached similar settlement agreements with the class action plaintiffs and agreed to pay a settlement amounting to $367.9 million.
