Cargolux quits Quito

Cargolux is to resume flights to Latacunga, Equador following renovations at the airport.
A spokesman for the carrier, which hasn’t flown to the hub since June 2009, says the improvement work “led to a significant improvement in operating conditions”.
He says: “After a complete refurbishment of the terminal and the cargo premises, Latacunga now hosts the longest runway in Ecuador, enabling take off at full payload.
“The new cargo reception facilities are fitted with state-of the art safety and security equipment and offer cool rooms with space for several wide-body freighters.
“The excellent roads that connect the flower producers with the airport will make cargo operations on the ground faster, safer and easier for all players involved.”
The decision to leave Quito is thought to have been influenced by night curfews on flights.
