Cathay Pacific to relocate freighter operations to DWC

CATHAY PACIFIC is to relocate its freighter operations from Dubai International to new airport Al Maktoum International at Dubai World Central (DWC) from February.
Dubai is Cathay’s transit hub for its European destinations of Amsterdam, Frankfurt, London, Manchester, Paris and Milan.
The Hong Kong airline currently operates seven weekly freighter services and 14 weekly passenger services into Dubai.
Although the freighter operation will move, Cathay’s passenger operations – as for those of Emirates, which has already switched its freighter services from the old airport – will remain at Dubai International.
This means that interconnecting cargo will be trucked between the airports.
Brian Yuen, Cathay Pacific’s country manager for the UAE and Qatar, says: “Dubai is an important market and a major transit point for Cathay Pacific. DWC is designed to support logistics well into the future and we believe the move will better serve us and bring our service level to a new high.”
Describing Cathay Pacific’s move as a significant development for the new facility, Helen Woodrow, vice-president of forecasting and research at Dubai Airports, says Al Maktoum International at Dubai World Central offers many advantages for cargo operators. “It’s a win-win proposition for the airline and the airport,” she says.
“An upcoming cargo hub, it is located at the heart of a unique development and connected to the Jebel Ali Freezone and Jebel Ali Port.”
