China Airlines to expand air cargo services

CHINA Airlines (CAL) is launching three new freighter routes in September.

From 4 September the airline will fly once a week from Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport to Xiamen with another weekly flight to Nanjing starting 11 September. From the end of September a twice-weekly freighter flight will operate to Fuzhou.

CAL expects most of the Taiwan exported cargo to be electronic goods, textiles and shoes.

CAL recorded a cargo load factor of over 75 per cent in the first half of the year.

Much of its success is thanks to improving relations between Taiwan and mainland China, which is allowing direct flights between the two after years of airlines being limited to indirect routes.

CAL currently operates 20 747-400 freighters.
