China Southern joins SkyTeam Cargo

WHEN China Southern Airlines joins SkyTeam Cargo in November it will become the first Chinese airline to join an international cargo alliance.
Luo Laijun, senior vice-president cargo, China Southern Airlines, said: “This move into SkyTeam Cargo exemplifies the vitality of China’s air cargo industry, following its passenger transportation business and marks an important step forward towards the internationalisation of the Chinese civil aviation industry.”
The airline currently has two 747-400 freighters and operates cargo services from Shanghai Pudong to Amsterdam, Chicago and Frankfurt.
It expects to have six 777-200 freighters by 2011 and wants to introduce new services to Dallas, New York, Vienna and “other major destinations across Europe and North America”.
