Chinese credit lifts off African airline

IT is no secret that Chinese investors are pumping huge sums into Africa, the ‘emerging’ continent. These funds have now created a new passenger and cargo airline in west Africa.

Africa World Airlines Limited (AWAL), backed by Chinese and Ghanaian money, has obtained its air carrier licence from the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and will begin flight operations in mid-2011.

Services will fly from Accra to three Ghanaian cities of Kumasi, Tamale and Takoradi.
