Companies sign Single Sky deal

LEADING aviation companies have signed 16 contracts totalling €1.9 billion in Brussels to push forward the European Commission’s Single European Sky (SES) initiative. This will create a joint European air space independent of state borders.
Under SESAR (Single European Sky ATM Research), representatives of European air traffic control organisations, aircraft manufacturers, airport operators, airlines and aerospace system manufacturers will work together to modernise and optimise European air traffic management.
The aim is – by 2020, when Europe will have to manage a threefold increase in air traffic – to reduce increase efficiency and safety and to cut air traffic management costs per flight by a total of 50 per cent.
