Continental, United merger gets Euro green light

EUROPE has approved the proposed merger between US carriers United Air Lines and Continental Airlines.

The European Commission decided the merger would not significantly impede effective competition in the European Economic Area (EEA). It found airfreight was especially not at risk since both airlines have limited their aspect of that business.

The merger was touted back in April and both airlines agreed to it in only 21 days, thanks to preliminary talks in 2006.
