Czech Airlines shakes up European network

CZECH Airlines is slashing its winter schedule in the biggest shake up of its European network in years.

Notably, the airline will be withdrawing services to the UK after 72 years.

Hana Hejskova, director of communication and the spokesperson of the Czech Airlines, downplayed the changes to the schedule and the impact on Czech Airlines cargo operations.

“Most of the destinations that Czech Airlines plans to not operate in the winter season 2010/11 are regional ones, eg Brno, Munich, Cologne/Bonn,” she told Air Cargo News. “Cargo to and from these destinations has always been transported by a road feeder service.

“Some [of the] others…are not priority cargo destinations, with minimum volume of shipments transported.

“The UK is a key market that will be served by supplementary cargo capacity so that none of the Czech Airlines Cargo’s clients will notice any change.”

Hejskova added that the airline plans to have an alternative cargo solution for every destination not operated in the coming winter season.
