Delta dips as US Airways falls

US carriers Delta Air Lines and US Airways second quarter figures have been cautiously received despite positive group performance.
Delta bosses described the performance as “solid” with total operating revenue up 6 per cent to US$586m before exceptional items.
US Airways heralded their “highest quarterly profit in company history” of US$321m – ahead of exceptionals
Delta’s cargo figures, however, were slightly down one per cent compared to the same months of 2011 with revenue from the arm now posted at US$262m.
Meanwhile US Airways cargo revenue was down 10.7 per cent to US$39m – worse than their performance taken over the first six months of 2012 which registered an 8.4 per cent decline.
Overall both airlines beat Wall Street estimations but were not given a euphoric reception citing fears of a Fall traffic decline.
The cargo industry is hoping the added passenger movements will fire production for items, which need to be flown to market.
