DHL opens new gateway in Mexico

DHL Express has inaugurated one of Latin America’s most advanced logistics industry gateways, located at Mexico City’s International Airport, together with a customer service call centre. The US$6.2 million facilities were designed to significantly increase the company’s operational capacity and strengthen its Mexican and international network.

DHL Express plans to invest $200 million in Latin America alone over the next two years, as the company’s chief executive officer, John Mullen, announced during his recent visit to Argentina and Brazil.

Alan Cassels, UK managing director DHL Express International, said: “DHL Express has a significant presence in Mexico, with over 30 years experience in the country. This move demonstrates our continued commitment to Mexico as a key international market and will no doubt strengthen DHL’s market leading position there. These facilities not only act as a gateway to Mexico but also for shipments to Cuba, a region not currently served by our competitors.”

Roger Crook, chief executive officer of DHL Express International Americas, said: “Our commitment to the region remains strong and, although we realise the current challenges in the global economy, it is important for DHL to foster and establish a solid base that will enable commercial trade in the region today, tomorrow and in the future.”
