DHL’s Hong Kong cargo hike

AIR Hong Kong, a joint venture between Cathay Pacific and DHL Express, has swapped a 727-200 freighter with an A300-600 wide-body freighter to cater for growing demand on the Manila (Philippines) to Hong Kong (China) run.

The switch doubles capacity for the booming electronics export sector.

DHL said demand on the five-day weekly service was increasing in spite of the economic slump experienced in major markets overseas.

Overall airfreight demand out of Hong Kong has been declining this year and freighter operations at Hong Kong International Airport have fallen more than three per cent year-over-year in the six months ending 30 September.
