Emirates and Cainiao to collaborate in Dubai

Emirates SkyCargo and Cainiao Smart Logistics Network, the logistics arm of the Alibaba Group, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to leverage  each other’s strengths in cross-border e-commerce trade and airline cargo operation through Dubai.
The city is one of several that the Hangzhou-headquartered company has identified as key locations in its strategy to provide 72-hour global delivery.
The others include Hangzhou, Kuala Lumpur, Liege and Moscow.
With e-commerce being one of the strongest growth areas for the air cargo industry, Emirates SkyCargo has been exploring opportunities for collaboration in order to offer “value-added services over and above cargo capacity between airports”, using the strategic advantages of Dubai as a hub serving the Middle East – and linking Asia and Europe.
Nabil Sultan, Emirates divisional senior vice president, cargo, said: “The MoU that we have signed today is the first step in what will be a deep and fruitful relationship between Emirates SkyCargo and one of the biggest players in the global e-commerce supply chain.”
