Emirates switches Dubai base

EMIRATES SkyCargo is transferring its freighter fleet from its crowded main base at Dubai International Airport to the new Dubai World Central Airport (DWC).
A trucking pipeline will be established between the two airports to handle Emirates’ transhipment and belly cargo transfers from its passenger aircraft.
Connection times between the two airports will be around 45 minutes and will not affect service standards, says a spokesperson.
Dubai International has become congested, mainly by passenger operations. It has a limit of 100 million passengers.
Emirates currently handles around 80 million passengers at the old airport and may be forced to switch entirely to the new airport in 2025.
DWC is due to open for passenger operations in September. SkyCargo operates four B777Fs and three wet-leased B747Fs and has six B777Fs on order.
