European airports see cargo growth stagnate in May

Airfreight traffic growth at European airports was flat in May as strikes took their toll on the market.
The latest figures from Airports Council International (ACI) Europe show that freight traffic increased by just 0.8% year on year in May.
This compares with an increase of 3.5% year on year over the first five months of 2018.
The association said this confirmed a significant downward trend since the start of the year and was also a reflection of air traffic control and airline strikes during the month, the most high profile of which has been at Air France.
The ACI figures also revealed that growth was strongest at non-European Union (EU) airports, which registered a 5.7% year-on-year increase in May, while cargo growth at EU airports was flat.
